Horses are shipped with hay and water always available to them, unless otherwise requested.

Our driver will stop every 3-4 hours to allow for an inspection of our equipment to ensure safety. While the driver is stopped, our handler will have sufficient time to check on every horse, which will include checking on water and hay.

For long distances exceeding twelve hours, we are fortunate to have many contacts throughout Canada and the United States to accommodate layovers.

Each location has overnight stalls available with hay, water, and feed provided to your horse(s). If your horse has specific medication/supplement needs, this can also be accommodated.

Unless otherwise requested, we will provide updates at each stop regarding progression of the trip and the status of their horse(s).

We require yourself, or authorized personnel, to be present when picking up the horse(s).

Should there be someone else present, we will need to be informed prior to pick-up, with approval.

We are happy to provide oral medications and/or supplements, with proper information provided to us.

During booking, we will require to be informed of the name, dosage/frequency, and administration method.

Our bookings include 1 regular sized tack trunk per horse. Should you have additional equipment to transport, please advise us in the additional comments in our quote submission so that we can quote any additional fees that may be applicable.

Wrapping or bandaging your horse for long trips is discouraged as this can present a risk. Should you advise us that you would like your horse to travel with wraps or bandages, our handler will remove them if the horse appears to be in any discomfort or stress from them.

It is always recommended to book a box stall as this will provide the most comfort for your horse given the similarity to a barn stall.

We accept Debit, Visa, MasterCard, E-Transfers and Cash.

A deposit of half the quoted price will be required upon booking transportation for your horse. The remaining amount owing must be paid at delivery.

We will work as quickly as possible to review your request and provide you with a quote; however, please allow up to 48 hours for us to get back to you.

You may cancel your booking at any time; however, please be aware that any costs associated with the shipment are non-refundable.

Any horse crossing the border is required to have a valid Coggins test, completed by a recognized Veterinary Lab.

Please note: This testing is valid for 6 months when travelling to the US, and 180 days when travelling in Canada.

It is also required that we be provided a Health Certificate, endorsed by Agriculture
Canada or the Federal Department of Agriculture (U.S.D.A.) prior to the scheduled pick up date. It is also required that a hard copy accompany each horse and must be provided at pick-up.
Please note: This certificate is valid for 30 days from the date of endorsement.

The above noted requirements are of the responsibility of the individual retaining our services to be completed and provided to us. Copies of each will be retained in your client file.

Brokerage – Newly purchased horses coming into Canada, there is a brokerage fee for Canadians.

If the horse that is shipping into Canada has not been in the U.S. for at least 60 days, they must be inspected by the C.F.I.A border veterinarian as they are entering Canada. There is also a charge associated with this.

Layover – Stops for rest will occur for any long distance transportation at an available layover facility.

GST (Importers with a CRA Business Number) – 5% GST is charged by the Canadian Government for any horse(s) purchased in the U.S. by a Canadian citizen and for horses owned by a Canadian that are coming into Canada for the first time. Your business can claim this GST back as an input tax credit. As of October 2024, Canada Customs requires all importers who have a CRA Business # to be registered on their CARM Portal in advance of the import.

HST (pertains to importers who do NOT have a CRA Business #) – 13% HST of the declared value of the horse will be payable to the Canadian Government.

Your horse(s) will be imported in full compliance with all regulations and paperwork is available in the event that you are audited by CRA.

Double W Ranch will assume the responsibility of submitting all customs clearances for your horse(s) to cross the border. We will notify you of any discrepancies.
